Believers Hospital, in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), hosted a first-of-its-kind live cooking workshop and awareness seminar in India aimed at educating families about proper dietary practices for children with Type 1 Diabetes. The event focused on empowering caregivers with practical skills and knowledge to manage the nutritional needs of diabetic children.
The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. George Chandy Matteethra. Kumari Pallavi Ramesh of Star Singer fame graced the event as the chief guest, while Mr. Varkey George, a social educationist from South Africa, presided over the session.
A diverse group of experts addressed the gathering, including Dr. Sangeetha Merin Varghese, Prof. Dr. Thomas Chacko, Prof. Dr. Abel K. Samuel, Prof. Dr. Philip Finny, and Mr. Shihabuddin E., Secretary of the Kerala Type 1 Diabetes Foundation.
A highlight of the event was the launch of a special diabetes-friendly recipe book tailored for children with Type 1 Diabetes . The book offers a collection of nutritious and practical meal options curated by dietetic professionals.
Faculty from Karlstad University, Sweden, also led several expert sessions. These included Dr. Unice from the Department of Health Sciences, Dr. Helene V. Wadensjö, Head of Public Health, and Dr. Kaisa Jurisäter, Head and Associate Professor of Nursing, who shared global insights on nutrition and community health education.
The Dietetics Department, under the leadership of Dr. Jyothi S. Krishnan, coordinated the live cooking workshop, which featured interactive cooking stations and engaging discussions on meal planning, portion control, and nutritional awareness.
A special mention and heartfelt appreciation go to Dr Sangeetha Merin Varghese for her dedication and tireless efforts in organizing the entire event. Her leadership, coordination, and commitment were instrumental in making the program a grand success.
