Reproductive Medicine

Overview

Infertility is a prevalent concern affecting both men and women today. If you and your partner have been trying to conceive for more than a year without success, you may be facing infertility. This journey can be emotionally challenging, and we are here to provide the support and solutions you need to achieve your dream of starting a family.

There are various treatment facilities available now. The first and foremost step for a couple seeking advice is to meet a doctor, usually a gynaecologist with a special interest in this sub-speciality. This doctor can dedicate more time to counselling the couple and assess the situation better than a gynaecologist working in a regular Obstetric and Gynecology OPD, where the workload in a general gynaecology OPD may limit the time available for individual patient care.

IVF or ART is not the first choice of treatment. Only less than 3% of infertility patients need IVF (ART), though the advanced age of the couple may increase the need for this procedure. A large number of these patients conceive after proper medical counselling and through other less expensive treatments.

Assisted Reproductive Techniques (ART)

Our centre specializes in Assisted Reproductive Techniques (ART) designed to help couples struggling with infertility. We offer a comprehensive range of advanced procedures, including IVF (in vitro fertilization), ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection), cryopreservation of embryos or gametes, and fertility medications. These techniques address various aspects of infertility and reproductive endocrinology.

Our dedicated team of specialists brings extensive experience and compassionate care to each case, tailoring treatment plans to individual needs.

Indications of ART

  • Obstructive Azoospermia (absence of sperm in the semen due to its passage  block)
  • Severe oligospermia (low count of sperm)
  • Blocked tube in female partner
  • Ovarian function abnormalities
  • Failure of other methods of treatment

Understanding IVF

While IVF, commonly known as the "test-tube baby" procedure, is well-known, it is not always the first choice for infertility treatment. It is typically recommended for couples dealing with severely damaged fallopian tubes, ovarian or testicular dysfunction, or specific conditions that require this specialized approach. Our specialists thoroughly evaluate your unique situation and recommend the most suitable treatment options.

The IVF Procedure

IVF is a sophisticated procedure involving the retrieval of eggs from the woman's body through transvaginal oocyte aspiration. These eggs are then carefully fertilized with sperm in our state-of-the-art ART laboratory. The resulting embryos are nurtured and monitored before being delicately placed back into the woman's womb to facilitate pregnancy.

Understanding Success Rates

The success of ART is often measured by the "Take Home Baby Rate." This rate varies, influenced by several factors, most notably the age of the partners. Generally, with only the partners (wife and husband) involved in the treatment, the success rate hovers around 25 to 30%. We understand the emotional challenges of this journey and offer counselling and support to manage expectations and alleviate stress.

Our goal is to provide comprehensive care and support throughout your journey to parenthood. We understand the importance of each step and are here to guide you through this process with expertise and compassion.
