SMRITI 2026, the Second Memorial Gathering of Moran Mor Athanasius Yohan I Metropolitan of Blessed Memory, was held prayerfully yesterday at the Mor Athanasius Yohan Memorial Convention Centre, Thiruvalla, bringing together various Church leaders, dignitaries, clergy, and representatives from Believers Eastern Church institutions and communities in loving remembrance of the beloved father and shepherd.

The memorial gathering was presided over by Moran Mor Dr. Samuel Theophilus Metropolitan. The inaugural address was delivered by H.B. Aboon Mor Baselios Joseph Catholicos, Supreme Head of The Malankara Jacobite Orthodox Church, who also released the memorial volume “Daily Thoughts,” with the first copy presented to Swami Gururethnam Jnana Thapaswi, President of Santhigiri Ashram.

The memorial lecture was delivered by Rev. Dr. Mothy Varkey, Senior Priest of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church.

Felicitations were offered by several distinguished leaders and dignitaries, including H.E. Mor Severios Kuriakose Metropolitan, Chief Metropolitan of the Malankara Jacobite Knanaya Community; H.E. Most Rev. Dr. Joshua Mar Ignathios Metropolitan, Bishop Emeritus of Mavelikara of The Syro-Malankara Catholic Church; Swami Gururethnam Jnana Thapaswi, President of Santhigiri Ashram; Dr. V. P. Suhair Maulavi, Imam of Palayam Juma Masjid, Trivandrum; Rt. Rev. Jose Geoge, Bishop of the Kollam–Kottarakkara Diocese of the Church of South India; and Prof. P. J. Kurien, Former Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.

A special highlight of the gathering was the Mor Athanasius Smrithi Home Key Handover Ceremony, led by His Grace Cyril Mor Baselios Metropolitan, Supreme Head of the Malankara Independent Syrian Church, who handed over the key to the beneficiary family.

Also present were H.G. Dr. Geevarghese Mar Yulios Metropolitan of the Kunnamkulam Diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church; H.E. Joshua Mor Barnabas Episcopa, Archbishop of the Kolkata and Jorhat Archdioceses; H.G. Mathews Mor Silvanus Episcopa, Bishop of the Trivandrum Archdiocese; and H.G. Isaac Mor Stephanos Episcopa, Bishop of the Thirunelveli Diocese.

The gathering stood as a heartfelt tribute to the life, vision, compassion, and enduring spiritual legacy of Moran Mor Athanasius Yohan I Metropolitan, whose love for God and humanity continues to inspire countless lives.
