Believers Hospital has launched Kerala’s first integrated Precision Medicine services, aimed at determining the optimal drug dosage tailored to each patient’s health condition and disease profile for improved treatment outcomes. This pioneering initiative championed by Prof. Dr. Sumith K. Mathew, is expected to make a significant impact on patient care, treatment effectiveness, and overall healthcare costs.
The services were inaugurated as part of a one-day workshop on Therapeutic Drug Monitoring. The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Prof. Dr. George Chandy Matteethra. Rev. Fr. Liju Raju Thamarakudy, Vicar of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church, officially inaugurated the Precision Medicine services. Dr. K. Pavithran, Consultant Oncologist at Amrita Hospital, was the chief guest.
Prof. Dr. Jacob Jesurun delivered the welcome address. Prof. Dr. Sumith K. Mathew and Rev. Fr. Thomas Varghese also participated in the event.
The newly launched integrated Precision Medicine services combine Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (TDM), Pharmacogenomics, and Pharmacometrics, enabling truly personalized healthcare. The Analytical Chemistry Lab at Believers Hospital, which supports this service, is the first hospital-based laboratory of its kind in India.
Precision Medicine is expected to be especially beneficial for transplant recipients, cancer patients, and those with complex infections, helping them achieve better health outcomes and quality of life. Prof. Dr. George Chandy Matteethra emphasized that the goal is to deliver medicine that is precise, safe, and cost-effective for every patient.
