Believers Church Medical College Hospital, Thiruvalla, in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), organized a pioneering live cooking workshop and awareness seminar to educate attendees on suitable dietary options for children with diabetes. The event, a first of its kind in India, was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. George Chandy, Director and CEO of Believers Hospital.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of star singer Kumari Pallavirathish as the chief guest and South African social education activist Varkey George as the presiding officer.
Key speakers at the event included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sangeetha Merin Varghese from the Department of Community Medicine, Prof. Dr. Thomas Chacko, Vice Principal of the Medical College, Prof. Dr. Abel K. Samuel, Prof. Dr. Philip Phinney, Head of the Department of Endocrinology, and Shihabuddin A, Secretary of the Kerala Type 1 Diabetes Foundation.
A notable highlight of the event was the release of a cookbook featuring dietary guidelines for children with type 1 diabetes.
International experts, including Dr. Unice from the Department of Public Health, Dr. Helen V. Vadensjo, and Dr. Kayasa Jurai Sater from Karlstad University, Sweden, led various sessions.
Dr. Jyothi S. Krishnan, Head of the Dietetics Department at Believers Hospital, expertly guided the live cooking workshop, sharing valuable insights on preparing suitable meals for children with diabetes
