Toddler Safely Recovers After Swallowing Metallic Anklet
A 4-year-old child was brought to the Emergency Department of Believers Church Medical College Hospital after accidentally swallowing a metallic anklet. An abdominal X-ray revealed the anklet lodged in the child’s stomach, prompting immediate medical intervention.
The child was swiftly prepared for an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, during which the foreign object was located in the second part of the duodenum. Skilled endoscopic techniques were employed to safely retrieve the metallic anklet without any complications.
Following the procedure, the child was kept under observation and is currently reported to be stable. Hospital authorities counseled the parents about the risks of accidental ingestion and emphasized preventive measures to avoid such incidents in the future.
