To mark World Kidney Day, the Nephrology Department at Believers Hospital initiated a comprehensive year-long campaign aimed at preventing kidney disease. The campaign was officially launched by Dr. George Chandy Matteethra, highlighting the hospital's commitment to promoting kidney health and raising awareness about kidney disease prevention.
In collaboration with the Department of Community Medicine, monthly awareness programs will be conducted in schools and colleges to educate students, teachers, and parents on the importance of a healthy lifestyle in preventing conditions like Type 2 Diabetes and Hypertension, which are major contributors to chronic kidney disease. Additionally, primary care providers across the state will receive Continuous Medical Education (CME) to enhance early detection and preventive strategies.
To improve patient care, the department has introduced specialized clinics, including the CKM Syndrome Clinic, Onco-Nephrology Clinic, Dialysis Rehabilitation Center, and Advanced Center for Interventional Nephrology. An Integrated Nephrology Research Cell, led by Dr. E.T. Arun Thomas and Dr. Sneha Anna Joy, will focus on population-specific studies to enhance treatment outcomes. Furthermore, a Super-Specialty Program in Nephrology will be launched in collaboration with CMC Vellore, offering advanced training for healthcare professionals.
