Believers Hospital's Department of Geriatrics marked Onam this year with a celebration that carried the true meaning of the festival — bringing joy, dignity, and warmth to the elderly patients in their care.
The Lamp Lighting Ceremony, graced by Director Dr. George Chandy Matteethra, Associate Director Mr. Sunny Kuruvilla, Medical Superintendent Dr. Abel K Samuel, Critical Care HOD Dr. Philip Mathew and patient representatives, opened the proceedings with a sense of occasion that was both festive and deeply heartfelt.
The programme took on special significance with two illuminating talks — Geriatrics Consultant Dr. Alisha S Thomas sharing valuable guidance on dementia prevention and healthy ageing, and PMR Consultant Dr. Anne Mary John presenting practical measures for fall prevention to help older adults maintain their safety and independence.
More than a celebration, this Onam was a reminder that within the walls of Believers Hospital, the elderly are not merely patients — they are honoured members of a family that chooses, each day, to celebrate life alongside them.
