Dr Vinod Pillai trained in Gastrointestinal, Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery at Asan Medical Center, Seoul, South Korea and Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Kaohsiung, Taiwan; from where he was awarded Fellowships in Hepatobiliary Surgery and Liver Transplantation. He also has a Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery. He was working with the Hepatobiliary and Liver Transplantation team at Medanta Hosital, Delhi, India prior to joining BCMCH last year

Twelve years of work experience at high-volume surgery centres in India

Worked at The Medanta Medicity Hospital, Delhi that has the highest volume centre for liver transplantation in India. Also renowned centre for robotic surgery

Trained at Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, the largest and oldest liver transplant program in Taiwan. The first successful liver transplant in Asia was performed there in 1984. Prof. Chao-Long Chen, the superintendent of the hospital and the director of the liver transplant department, is a world renowned authority especially in pediatric LDLT and safe donor hepatectomy. 

Five and a half years of experience as Assistant Professor of Surgery (with focus on GI surgery) at B J Medical College, Ahmedabad - one of the biggest hospitals in Asia, and the largest tertiary referral hospital in Gujarat.

Trained in AMC that has the highest volumes for liver transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery in Asia and has pioneered numerous innovative techniques and is at the cutting edge of research in this field.
