Launch of First Responders, Thiruvalla

Road traffic accidents are a major cause of death with over 4,000 lives lost in Kerala alone. A number of these lives could have possibly been saved if early interventions were available. District Administration, Thiruvalla has taken the initiative to create First Responders Thiruvalla, in partnership with Basic Life Support Foundation and Believers Church Medical College Hospital.

This initiative will bring these Good Samaritans together along with Police, Revenue, Fire and Rescue, Excise, Motor Vehicles Department officials to create a network of First Responders.

First Responders Thiruvalla was inaugurated on 20 December 2019 by Shri Mathew T. Thomas (MLA, Thiruvalla) in the presence of Dr. Vinay Goyal IAS (Sub-Collector, Thiruvalla), Shri Cherian Polachirackal (Thiruvalla Municipality Chairman), Shri J Umesh Kumar (DySP, Thiruvalla), Shri N C Ajith Kumar (RTO, Thiruvalla), Dr. Mohan Verghese (Associate Director, Believers Hospital) and other dignitaries. Sensitisation and training in first aid and basic life support was provided by Dr. Jiju Joseph (Special Executive Officer, Associate Medical Superintendent) and a team from Believers Hospital. This was attended by 116 volunteers from various agencies:
