8 th INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA CELEBRATION

The International Yoga Day was celebrated on 21st June,2022 to bring peace, harmony, happiness and success to every soul in the world. This was a great opportunity to imbibe the value of discipline. Yoga is a mental, physical and spiritual practice that needs to be carried every day. Believers Church Medical College Hospital, Thiruvalla got the chance to know how yoga embodies unity of mind and body. This special session was organized by National Resource Centre for Non Communicable Disease (NRC-NCD). The students of 1 st Year MBBS (2021 Batch) with the Faculty performed Yoga between 07.00 am and 7:45 am with full interest, enthusiasm and eagerness. Yoga instructor Ms. Athira. M S took yoga session with great dedication. Mr. Shyam Krishnan successfully demonstrated yoga postures for students. The session began by chanting the Opening prayer “Sangachatwam Samvadatwam”. Instuctor explained meaning of the Prayer. Yoga Practices started with Anuloam – Viloam Pranayama followed by Bramari Pranayama. Asanas started with Loosening Practices followed by a Uttana Padasana, Pawana Muktasana, Makarasana, Bhujangasana, Vajrasana, Ushtrasana, Vrikshasana and ending with Shavasana and Meditation. This programme were concluded with Closing prayer “ Sarve Bhavanthu Sukhina:” and the meaning were explained by the instructor.

We conducted formal function at 03.30pm. Swami Aswathi Thirunal, Madadipathi, Ekalavya Ashram, Thiruvananthapuram was the Chief Guest for this function. Our Director and CEO Dr. George Chandy Matteethra, Principal Dr. Girija Mohan, Medical Superintendent Dr. Geomcy George, NRC-NCD Executive Director Mr. Johnson Edayaranmula, Students affairs Dean Dr. Jacob Jesurun, Yoga Instuctors, demonstators, Faculty and students participated in the celebration.

The function began with a brief introduction of Yoga and Yoga Day. Prof. Dr Girija Mohan, Principal, BCMCH delivered welcome speech. Prof. Dr. George Chandy Matteethra delivered Presidential address. He gave an idea about contemporary health and Yoga. After the lamp lighting, Mr. Johnson Edayaranmula Introduced the Chief Guest. Swami Aswathi Thirunal spoke about 'The Positive Framework of Meditation’. He conducted a short meditation session for us. Felicitation was delivered by Dr. Geomcy George. He explained about IDY logo. He added that the International Yoga Day is a gift to the world by India. Mementoes Presented to The Chief Guest and Yoga Trainers. Certificates and Cash Prizes were presented to the winners of Poster competition on the topic “Yoga and Health”. The function ended with a vote of thanks by Prof. Dr. Jacob Jesurun R S followed by National Anthem.

Dr. Geomcy George, Medical superintendent, BCMCH was invited for IDY 22 Programme conducted by Sevabharati, Payippadu. Ms. Athira M S, Tutor of Physiology & Yoga Instructor, BCMCH was invited to take yoga class on 20 th June 2022 at St. Thomas College, Ranny, Kerala. Our Yoga Instructor is Pursuing PhD in Diabetic Yoga at Vinayaka Missions Research Foundation, Salem (Faculty of Medicine, Physiology). She presented a paper in National Seminar on yoga organized by the Department of Human Consciousness and Yogic Sciences, Mangalore University in collaboration with UGC and Inter University Center for Yogic Science(IUC), Banglore. She was nominated for Prime Minister’s Yoga award. She participated in the 750 million Suryanamaskar Challenge.
