ISCCM approved For post-graduate doctors

A rigorous training in the core principles of critical care medicine, approved by the Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine. It is a highly sought-after fellowship for post-graduates — MD, MS, DNB or Diploma — designed to train physicians to manage critically ill patients independently. The programme is structured and hands-on, and suits doctors seeking recognised expertise in intensive care.

Who can apply

  • NMC-recognised base qualification in Anaesthesiology, General Medicine, Chest / Respiratory Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or specified surgical disciplines
  • One year for candidates holding MD, MS or DNB
  • Two years for candidates holding a Diploma (DA / DTCD)

Doctorate of National Board — Critical Care Medicine

NBEMS recognised Equivalent to DM / MCh

A three-year super-speciality course recognised by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the National Medical Commission. The qualification holds equivalence to DM and MCh degrees for all purposes, including teaching appointments.

What the programme sets out to do

Residency at BCMCH is built to turn qualified doctors into independent, high-functioning intensivists. Residents are the clinical and academic anchor of the ICU — the bridge between the multidisciplinary team, the admitting units and the ICU consultants.

  • Communication — clear, empathetic updates to families and precise handovers
  • Leadership — guiding junior staff and nursing teams, especially at code blue and emergency triage

Residency training

Both medical programmes share one curriculum, grounded in two pillars — rigorous ownership of patient care, and evidence-based academic learning.

Core learning objectives
  • Managing ARDS, septic shock, multi-organ dysfunction syndrome and severe neurotrauma
  • Applying current critical care guidelines and literature at the bedside
  • VAP and CLABSI bundles, antibiotic stewardship, DVT prophylaxis
Core skills
  • Airway — advanced intubation, difficult airway algorithms, percutaneous tracheostomy
  • Vascular access — USG-guided CVC, arterial lines, haemodialysis catheters
  • Organ support — mechanical ventilation, CRRT and SLED, fundamentals of ECMO
  • Imaging — POCUS and basic 2D echocardiography

  • Percutaneous tracheostomy

Indian Diploma in Critical Care Nursing

ISCCM-recognised training centre 2026 admissions open 4 seats only

A one-year programme conducted by the Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine for nurses already working in intensive care. Training is entirely hands-on and takes place across the hospital's Level III units, under experienced critical care nursing faculty.

Who can apply

  • GNM, B.Sc Nursing or Post Basic B.Sc Nursing
  • Currently posted in an ICU or critical care unit
  • Valid State Nursing Council registration
  • Minimum six months' ICU experience
