Ashamol, a loving housewife and mother of two children, was rushed to Believers Hospital by her husband. He works as a gold appraiser in a primary sector cooperative bank near their home town of Kayamkulam. The COVID-19 period was financially and emotionally draining for the family.
After visiting multiple hospitals, Ashamol was brought to our hospital with distended abdomen and ulcers on her left foot caused by burns. She was admitted to the ICU under the Department of Internal Medicine. She was seen by consultants from the Departments of Rheumatology and Haematology.
She was diagnosed with Sjogren’s Syndrome with autoimmune hemolytic anaemia (a disease in which the body's cells destroy its own cells), Left Foot Ulcer (non-healing ulcers), Bilateral Lower Lymphedema (fluid filling in the lower limb due to damaged lymphatic system), Pyelonephritis (an infection that affects the kidney).
Her condition deteriorated over the next two weeks. Unfortunately, she suffered a cardiac arrest from which she was revived. She is currently on mechanical ventilation. She may need to be supported with a ventilator and will require ICU care for several weeks. It is estimated that the treatment will cost approximately Rs. 8,00,000. In addition, Sjogren's Syndrome requires lifelong treatment due to its autoimmune nature. The two children are asking for your help to get their mother out of this critical situation.
